We are pleased to welcome you to the NSI-MI User Group Meeting, hosted by Fraunhofer FHR in Germany. This event brings together the user community to exchange technical insight and explore practical considerations in advanced AUT and phased array testing, as well as high throughput production environments.

Focused sessions and presentations will highlight measurement approaches, system integration, automation strategies, and facility considerations. Contributions from NSI-MI and Fraunhofer FHR will also address current challenges and evolving capabilities. This forum encourages open dialogue and the exchange of best practices across modern RF test environments.

Presenters:

Dr. Daniël Janse van Rensburg - CTO and Business Unit Manager, NSI-MI;

Dr. Roland Moch - Robotic Systems Software Engineer, NSI-MI;

Dr. Vince Rodríguez - Manager, Electromagnetic Analysis Group, NSI-MI;

Bruce Williams - Manager, Instrumentation Engineering, NSI-MI;

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Heberling - Director, Fraunhofer FHR;

Olaf Saalmann - Fraunhofer FHR

What You'll Learn

Taking place September 15–16, this User Group Meeting brings together experts from NSI-MI and Fraunhofer FHR to explore the latest advancements in RF and antenna test.

Advanced AUT & Phased Array Testing

Covers methods, tools, and strategies for integrating complex test articles with measurement systems. Topics include:

  • Testing approaches: Near-Field, Compact Range, Far-Field
  • Interfacing array controllers: analog, parallel, serial, LAN, optical
  • Analog and digital antenna measurements, including pattern testing and element tuning
  • High-power testing: absorber options, AUT cooling methods, forced-air considerations, range safety
  • Considerations and requirements for antenna measurements on active phased-array systems
  • High-speed interfaces for coordinating AUT modes (frequency, beam steering, Tx/Rx) with measurement systems

High Throughput Testing

Production test environments designed to minimize test time while maintaining high measurement accuracy require careful planning and specialized equipment. Topics include:

  • Facility layout and CONOPS, AUT fixturing and alignment strategies
  • High-speed RF instrumentation, wideband testing, and automation tools to increase throughput
  • Automated testing: AUT Tx/Rx, SFD, G/T, EIRP, calibration, and more

Robotic Antenna Measurements

Examines the use of robotics to improve flexibility, efficiency, and precision in antenna testing. Topics include:

  • Opportunities and challenges of robotics in antenna measurement environments
  • Robotic handling of AUTs, including loading, unloading, and positioning
  • Advancements in robotic near field measurement techniques
  • Integration of robotic systems with RF measurement and control platforms
