At the ILA Berlin, hall 4, booth 202, Fraunhofer FHR will present two radar sensors for navigation support of drones. The sensors are valuable components in the implementation of autonomous flying drones: they function as obstacle detectors to prevent collisions. Radar sensors also operate reliably in restricted visibility, e.g. in foggy or dusty conditions. Due to their ability to measure distances with high precision, the radar sensors can also be used as altimeters when other sources of information such as barometers or GPS are not available or cannot operate optimally.

Space debris is a constantly growing threat to active satellites for navigation, communication and earth observation. The services provided by this space-based infrastructure are essential for modern societies. Fraunhofer FHR develops radar systems for observation and reconnaissance of space objects in earth orbits (low earth orbit to geo stationary orbit). The institute presents its space observation radars GESTRA (surveillance) and TIRA (reconnaissance) as well as systems for the detection of UAVs and sensors to be mounted on drones as payload. Fraunhofer FHR is exhibiting together with its partners at the booths of Fraunhofer in Hall 4, Weltraumlagezentrum (Space Situational Awareness Center) in Hall 3 and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
